It's go time!

Project Nygma is a go.
I've been sitting on this for a year now. I bought some supplies a few months ago, annnnd then a lot came up. I was waiting and waiting on my con pass and was finally approved late last month.
I will be attending Dragon Con 2011 as "Nygma" AKA Steampunk female Riddler.
My biggest concern is making this cost effective. When I saw the corset I wanted on sale for $34 last week I freaked out. And then this morning it was back to $89. Curses!!!! I might just have to learn how to bone. Huh huh huh.
*ahem*
This morning I sketched up the newest addition to my costume, my own half version of hoops/Panniers. Since this is steampunk the amount of fun I can have designing these hardware elements is endless. My biggest concern was that this needs to be lightweight enough to move through the crowds, but sturdy enough to hold shape. I looked up some DIY for tips and saw a great suggestion, tubing instead of expensive boning.
To the hardware store I went! And low and behold, the right size and sturdiness was on sale for $6. Win! I grabbed a jar to possibly use in the staff because I liked the patterning on it.
I looked at variations for creating the staff. I still feel PVC that screws together at certain points will be best for the sake of packing. However That might get a tad pricey. I'll check the craft store and see what else might catch my attention. I was considering the bamboo polls, and just using big "brass" attachment points. Since it was supposed to be cherry stained wood originally I may do that. Not sure.
Then I wandered to the thrift store to looks for odds and ends, and there on the rack was THE perfect fabric... for $1.50. YAY!!!
This will work nicely for one of the skirt layers.
I still have a lot more shopping to do, and a lot of work ahead of me but I'm so excited.
Ive printed out a calendar, wrote down my budget week by week, and am tracking my gym and costume progress on it.
I can't wait to see all my friends again. Dominic, and John, and John, and John, and Andrew, and Andrew, and Corey, and Aurelia, and Katie.
I've got a hotel room to myself which means... party.
I still wouldn't mind splitting it to save money. Buuuut I mean, it might also be nice to be able to have the room to myself when I'm getting ready.
I'm having trouble finding goggles. I need to find some SP workshops and see what base they use.

My nerd senses are tingling!!!
Seriously. I've got goose bumps.
IT'S CON SEASON BITCHESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
Megacon was a few weeks ago and I'm currently browsing the gallery at EPBOT . I'm eating my breakfast kinda bouncing up and down going "omg. omG. OMG!!!" as I look at each beautifully crafted (and some not so much) costumes. Just the EFFORT people put into these. MMMMmmmmm
So yesterday I finally went to the APEX junk yard to find meh tubez. That places is the apocalypse. Seriously, check it out:

I circled and circled the place for about an hour looking for the perfect Vacum Tube and or lightbulb to place in my cane/staff, It was like playing Goldy Locks. "This tube is too big. This tube is too small. This tube is... filled with goo. Ewww". I was about to give up and settle for a sort of bland looking one when I thought I saw something run past my feet. Which, if you look at the photos, was a little "oh shit!". When I looked down I saw it. The effing holy grail tube I'd been searching for! Perfect size, interesting wire components, brown base, and bonus "Edison" brand. Oh you steampunkers shall enjoy it!
After I found that the rest was like a kid in a candy shop. "I'll take this wire component. And this... thing. And these bulbs! YES! MY CREATION SHALL LIVE! MWAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!"

On the way home I swung by the library to pick up a fashion history book for some last minute ideas. I'm so stoked!

The only downer is that I had to take a month off the gym and two weeks off my bike due to some medical crap. I'm supposed to do more, but it's not dire and the doc said to wait till October for more stuff, which is AFTER Dcon. Yay!!!
I broke down on Thursday and bought my plane ticket to DCon a little early. Maybe not the best financial move, but it was cheap, non stop, and not some ungodly hour. YAYYYY!!! Now I need to book a room. Hrmph. I'm wondering if They keep rooms for guests?

For your health!
Lately I've been working 10-12 hours days and have also been juggling a recent onslaught of doctor visits. It's pretty draining to say the least. My apartment is a mess and laundry needs to be done.
Knowing how hard I've been working and a little bit about being bummed about said doctor visits my friends set out on a mission to get me out to have some fun. I was pretty resistant to the idea.. but they are great people who don't take no for an answer. So I "drew" a quick comic about it. Just a way to say my friends are *awesome* and glad they have my back :)

Seriously tho... those NYE party popper things are so fun.
